Bunk House, Winter Progress

Kevin and III really dug into the bunkhouse today. The results were pretty impressive!

Its a near blizzard outside, but I'd venture to say almost cozy inside :)

When the weather turns, we will look to tidy up the drywall and firm up the bunks, but solid cool for now.

If the kiddos don't take a break from teething, you may find me out there soon!

Geothermal Prep

No photos for today's work, because it's just not pretty! We have been busy clearing and cleaning the basement and the two closets that we have, in preparation for the geothermal install that is due to begin next week. The  basement now has more than a single file path through it and the closets are starting to come along. By this time next year, I think we will be in absolute heaven! The house is really starting to come together!! Refreshing!

The bunkhouse is officially under construction.

We are still tending to the detail work, but by and large, wall three is done, too! 

Exterior Refinish, Side Two

Tile Job, Bathroom 1

The Bear will soon be potty training and his brother is sure to follow in a few short years. There are few things worse than the smell of old pee. As such, we decided to tile the bathroom floors, to make potty training accidents less...  lasting.

We opted for some very neutral 12" tile from our friends at Home Depot. Off set the tile in hopes that it would help the eye embrace the space as best as possible. 

Busy as all get out,  the Husband sought some assistance on the work to be done.

Brother Cody came through like a dream! Thank you Brother!!!!!

Exterior Restoration, Day 1– er Week 1!

Eagerly, we have awaited the opportunity to begin work on the exterior restoration of the cabin.

 

Last weekend, we decided to jump on it. We prepped our equipment and supplies, lined up activities to keep the boys busy and mommy functioning and the work began.

 

Husband first went over the entire north facing wall to sand away at the logs.

 

 

Next, he incorporated some of the recommended bug killing cocktail and coated the entire north side.  

 

Soaked it all! 

 

This is what we hope to avoid in the future! (Carpenter bee hiding huts) 

Then the re staining of the logs began. These pictures are not in order -please forgive- but they show the progress. We now have a true 'lincoln log' hue to the house.

 

 

See the difference?!?! Wowsa! 

 

 

The work went faster than we had imagined. A rare but beautiful notion in the home improvement world! Over the next weeks, we will continue the efforts on the remaining exterior walls of the house. More pics to come, I'm sure! 

Summer is Coming On

The summer solstice is just days away and the signs of the season are upon us! 

The first of two lavender harvests are in motion,  the lawn is lush,  the garden is in,  the baby is due any day and the hops are climbing high. 

It has certainly been an eventful year for our household and the momentum looks to continue. 

Ted did a fantastic job of pruning the hops on Friday,  clearing some weeds in the area and giving them space to grow. We have had a great deal of moist weather in recent weeks,  but our crops are less bothered by the inconvenience than we would have thought. 

If baby bird holds off a few more days,  we will head to a continuing education course offered by OSU Extension,  right here in Bainbridge. 

A friend recently commented that it must be wonderful to be following a dream. I have to smile now,  as I did then, because it really is! Two years ago we had no idea we would be in a log cabin,  starting a hop and lavender farm...  Now we can't imagine anything else for our growing family. 

Life is good ;)

The Lavender is Here!

Truth be told, we weren't sure that our lavender delivery was going to make it to the farm at all this year. Much to our delight, a kind FedEx driver raced up the driveway last Saturday with this unexpected, but highly anticipated delivery!



We will share more pictures as we prepare it and get it all in the ground.
