Underway

We hope this will offer a place to share construction progress.

Background

Over Independence Day weekend, we stopped by a real estate listing that caught our eye. The home was a log cabin on sixteen acres. It was built in 1997 by a mason and his wife. Unfortunately, the house and property had been foreclosed on and sat vacant for over a year and a half.

One step inside and Ted said that he thought we had found 'it', the home we had been looking for!

We closed on the house in the last week in August and have been working steadily to repair and restore the place ever since. If everything continues at this pace, we hope to be moved in (living here full time) by the middle of October.

Progress Thusfar

So far, we have deterred hundreds of carpenter bees (and their friends, the woodpeckers) that were invading the logs on the exterior walls. We had the chimney swept and new caps put on the stacks. These were both contracted guys, to keep things in motion.

We contacted the original builder, Kuhn's Brothers Log Homes, of Pennsylvania. One of the engineers there has kindly coordinated with us on some of the repairs, as well as expansions for the future.

In the house, we swapped the main floor toilet for a fresh model and added a new spigot. With the help of our parents and their significants, we have installed kitchen cabinets (there previous were none), scrubbed and sealed every inch of kitchen wall space, doubled the size of the cut front lawn, repainted the exterior doors, mended countles feet of leaky plumbing, installed new fixtures in the second floor shower and sink, cut a space for our garden, ran all sorts of new electric and installed a couple toddler gates. The list goes on... but I will not. In short, we are trying to fortify the place, so we can move in and work on the details. Yesterday we order our countertops. If luck goes our way, we will have a functioning kitchen by the close of next week or early the following. Woo-hoo!!!

I'll (Jess) do my best to add any updates here while I'm putting iv down for naps, etc. The program and my phone don't always agree, so please excuse the typos and need for editing ;)

Without further ado, here is a short tour of the main floor:

Hopefully it will work the first time around....

Love to all and THANK YOU!!!! THANK YOU!!!! THANK YOU!!! to those who have helped us as we have searched and set to settle into our new home!

We are so very blessed
