Could the weather this weekend have been more magnificent??
I seriously doubt it :)
Mild breeze, warm sunshine, clear skies. Wow!
We embraced the onset of Spring by planting some pink lemonade blueberry bushes, a few forsythia and some other goodies.
On the hops front, we staked all the hops that have surfaced. This helps 1. To identify their growth 2. Illuminate the new ones to surface 3. The stakes will serve to anchor the sisal that the crops will climb in the months ahead.
Over the span of the last two weeks, we have been thrilled to count as 10% then 20%, then 50% and now over 75% of our rhizomes have produced! We take a family stroll most evenings to check on the progress and quantity of our little starts and it has brought us home smiling each time!
On the chicken front, I'm sorry to share that we are down from nine birds to five. Gimper, the fella with the bad leg, took a turn for the worse. Spot fell victim to Huck's curiosity and a third unnamed vic was lost last night. Needless to say, we are uping security for our dwindling flock. On the up side, the three we lost were males and not layers, so we have that going for us. Hopefully we can preserve our remaining feathered friends!
