Late last week, we did a once-over in the orchard to pick off any fruit that had set in on the trees. Rumor has it that if you remove the first year's fruit, you will allow the tree to focus the same energy on root development. As a 'tree' growing some 'fruit' of her own, I can appreciate how the energy may be utilized best for root development now and a smoking orchard crop in the years ahead!
Below is one of three hand-fulls of cherries that we 'harvested' and one of the collections of peaches.
There was a tinge of sadness, as we realized that a few weeks from now we would have been able to sink our teeth into this delicious fruit. May our taste buds forgive us, as we patiently await next year's harvest!
